Super Easy Ways to Be Healthier

Although many of us made resolutions to be healthier this year, sometimes being healthy can feel like so much work. It takes a lot of time and effort to eat right and exercise. The good news is that there are little things you can do throughout the day to be healthier, too. These are things you can easily work into your schedule, no matter how busy you are. And while exercising and eating right are both important, the little things can go a long way, too.

Crazy Easy

Take the stairs whenever the opportunity presents itself. If you work in a high-rise, take the elevator and get out two or three floors before you have to get off, then take the stairs the rest of the way.

Use your lunch break to stretch your legs. So many people spend their lunch break eating at their desk while surfing the internet or sitting in the break room and watching the TV. That’s fine while you’re eating, but once you’re done, use that time to get up and walk around. Take a walk around the block. Invite a coworker or two. If that doesn’t work, walk the halls of your workplace.

Park farther away. Whether you’re grocery shopping, running errands, or parking for work, this is an easy way to get more steps in. Plus, you won’t have to deal with the congestion that comes with parking close to the entrance.

Exercise while you watch Netflix. A lot of people feel like watching TV and exercising is an either/or scenario. It doesn’t have to be! That’s a solid block of 40+ minutes. Do some squats, push-ups, and lunges while you watch. Click here for 20 body-weight exercises you can do right at home. Invest in some free weights or exercise bands to amp up your workout.

Drink more water. Instead of sipping on soda during the day, keep a water bottle nearby. Nearly everyone can benefit from drinking more H20, and the rewards are endless. Drinking more water can boost your mood and your energy, help your immune system, and prevent headaches.

Hide the sweets. They weren’t lying when they said, “Out of sight, out of mind.” Putting your treats somewhere where they aren’t visible and are inconvenient to get to can significantly impact how often you reach for them. For more information, read this article from Cornell University.

A Little Prep

Bring your lunch to work. Prepping your lunch beforehand means you’ll probably eat a lot healthier than if you buy your lunch every day or stop by the vending machine.

Make your plate colorful. We’re specifically talking about colorful food, and the more color, the better. This means more veggies and fruit, and less starches and grains.

If you’re going to snack, make it healthy. This means munching on carrots or other fruits and veggies instead of on chips or candy. While it’s better to eat complete meals instead of grazing all day, we understand that sometimes we need a little extra fuel.
