4 Hormones That Could Be the Cause of a Low Sex Drive

Men and women, of all ages, struggle with low sex drive. This can be a frustrating experience for any person, especially those who want to be able to perform sexually but are just struggling with a low drive.

Low sex drive is more common in women than men and women struggle with understanding why they are experiencing this change in their sexual desires. Typically, with women, it is much more complicated than just a single cause of a low sex drive problem, and there are usually multiple factors that come into play. However, in some cases, there is a hormonal imbalance that is the main culprit behind low sex drive.

  • Changes in Hormones from Menopause- It should come as no surprise that changes in Estrogen are typically to blame for issues with a low sex drive. Many times, this happens during the transition to menopause. Low estrogen can cause a low sex drive as well as vaginal dryness that can cause uncomfortable or painful sex.
  • Hormonal Changes from Birth Control- There are so many women on birth control today, but what women don’t realize is that the pill actually binds excess testosterone in the body. This in turn can impact your libido.
  • Hormone Changes from Pregnancy or Breast Feeding- Pregnancy and breast feeding can both put a huge damper on sex drive as the body is in a constant state of hormonal ups and downs.
  • Hormonal Imbalances from Irregular Menstrual Cycles- Typically when a woman gets her period every 24 to 34 days—it is a sign that your hormones are working properly. Irregular, infrequent or absent periods may be a sign of an imbalance of estrogen and may be at the root of your low sex drive.

Of course, there are some women who do not have any of these causes, but are still struggling with a hormonal imbalance that is impacting their sex drive. The good news is, there are solutions available.
