Testosterone and the Link to Chronic Fatigue in Men

If you haven’t already heard of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it is an increasingly common diagnosis in both men and women and is a condition that can make everyday activities extremely difficult. This syndrome causes long-term tiredness and makes even the simplest of activities completely energy draining. What is perhaps most frustrating about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is that not even sleep can help the individual feel rested or recovered.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can be very challenging and cause a great deal of distress to any patient. It can make everything from working to spending time with loved ones, exercising and even enjoying beloved hobbies difficult or nearly impossible. It can also be difficult to diagnose, as different patients tend to present different symptoms with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and typically nothing abnormal will show up in tests or physical examinations.

Sometimes, this fatigue can be a result of another condition or health issue—while in other situations, this syndrome happens all on its own. Doctors still don’t know exactly what causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but research into this issue has found some links. In many cases, doctors find that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome occurs after an individual has had a severe glandular fever and the syndrome is an immune response to the body recovering from a virus.

Diagnosing this syndrome can also be difficult—but in most cases, doctors will start with a blood test. This will help ensure the side effects are not a result of a hormonal issue. During this time, doctors will also be able to tell is the male patient is truly dealing with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or if they are struggling with low testosterone, or low T. This will help exclude a hormonal issue. Many times, low testosterone levels can mimic some of the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in men.

The good news is, if low T really is to blame, there are much more viable treatment options than there are with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. While there is still no known cure for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, men with low T can get testosterone treatments in order to get over their fatigue symptoms. With regular injections, patches, gels or pellets, many men are able to restore their normal testosterone levels and combat their debilitating fatigue.

The first step is getting in to a medical professional and having your testosterone levels checked. This can be done through a simple blood test. Here at LT Men’s Clinic we can make sure you get the blood test that you need to determine your exact testosterone levels. This way you can determine if testosterone treatments may be able to help you overcome this fatigue.
