01 Aug How Low Testosterone Can Impact Younger Men
While many people think of low testosterone as a problem for older men—it can actually impact men of all ages, including younger men. In fact, men under 30 can experience issues with low testosterone.
Testosterone levels typically tend to peak around adolescence and early adulthood. Around the age of 30 is when men tend to see a decline in these levels. This is typically at a rate of around 1 percent each year. However, in some men this decline may start younger.
So, what exactly is low testosterone?
Low T is a medical condition where men aren’t producing enough of the testosterone hormone. While both men and women produce this hormone, it is more prevalent in men. This is often why it is called the “male hormone.” Testosterone does a lot in the body including:
- Helping with the maturation of male sex organs
- Developing sperm
- Creating muscle mass
- Deepening the voice
- Aiding in hair growth
When you aren’t producing enough testosterone symptoms often include erectile dysfunction, loss of muscle mass, unexplained fat gain, infertility, balding and erectile dysfunction. Some men also experience decreased libido, sleep issues, depression or persistent fatigue.
It is important to note that many of the symptoms of low testosterone can be caused by lifestyle factors or other medical conditions, which is why it is so important to go to a doctor to have your hormone levels checked.
Many younger men don’t assume they can struggle with low testosterone because of their age—but in many cases, it could be the cause of symptoms such as this.
