Is Low Testosterone a Normal Part of Aging

Is Low Testosterone a Normal Part of Aging?

One of the most popular questions we get here at LT Men’s Clinic has to do with testosterone levels and whether low testosterone is a normal part of the aging process. Most men seem to assume that low testosterone levels are a simple part of aging and that there is nothing that they can do about this change.

So, is low testosterone normal as you get older?

The answer is more complex than a simple “yes” or “no,” which is why every aging man should have a better understanding of low testosterone and how age can impact testosterone levels.

It is true, as men get older testosterone levels tend to decline naturally as they age. However, some men experience a very significant decline in their testosterone levels (more significant than average) and this can have a serious impact on their quality of life.

When men have “low T” or too low of testosterone levels, they may experience a decrease in their sex drive, fewer erections and reduced orgasm sensation. Many men also experience a decrease in energy, depression, issues sleeping, reduced strength and a decrease in memory and concentration.

Simply put, low testosterone levels can have a serious impact on any man’s quality of life—no matter what their age is. Life-altering side effects such as this are not normal. In fact, there are millions of men out there with an actual testosterone deficiency that is impacting their quality of life. And while the likelihood of men having this deficiency increases with age, it is not a natural side effect of aging.

While issues with testosterone deficiencies can have a major impact on any man’s life, it doesn’t mean that men with low testosterone have to live with these side effects. Treatments such as BHRT (bio-identical hormone replacement therapy) can help restore testosterone levels in the body by mimicking the natural hormones the body produces and can help men with low testosterone finally get rid of these frustrating side effects.
